Finding the right guitar course can be a nightmare especially if you are starting out. The usual problem is you become either quickly overwhelmed or there is not enough information on the style of playing which you wish to pursue and so you become quickly disillusioned. Find the right course and playing becomes a pleasure as well as you absorbing the information like a sponge.

Unless you are like Mark Knopfler who didn’t have the nerve to ask his father for an amp when he was given his first electric guitar, you will need an amp. Before you go and scour the guitar mags and ebay for second hand kit remember very few guitarists get rid of a good working amp. Amps are relatively heavy items and the cost of carriage can be more than the value of an old amp. I strongly reccommend a new one unless you are a dab hand with electronics and a soldering iron.

If you live in close proximity to others then you cannot do better in my opinion than the Line 6
